Sara Wilson Jenkins, her husband of 56 year Dr. Nat Glover, and her
son David Clarke Glover. She is survived by her brother, William O.

from North Atlanta Presbyterian School, frequently appearing in the
Atlanta newspapers modeling clothes for both the Rich's and the J.P.
Allen Department Stores. She attended Agnes Scott College where, at a
friend's debutant party, she met Dr. Nat Glover of Newnan whom she
married shortly afterwards.
She and Nat
loved dancing and fishing and she especially enjoyed working in her
yard, having personally and lovingly planted each of the hundreds of
azalea plants that can be seen at the old family home on Alpine Drive.
Bobbie was a
member of Central Baptist Church where she taught the Cradle Roll

served as a Cub Scout den mother for all four of her boys and a

Those who knew
her will long remember her love of humor and her constant smile. This
ever-positive outlook infected all around her. Just recently she
joked that she probably was Newnan's oldest Matron of Honor, having
served as such at the age of 85 for a close friend's wedding.

Howard
Clarke Glover Jr.
A colorful
chapter in the historical fabric of Coweta County came to an end in
the early morning hours of Sept. 10, 2010, as Dr. Howard Clarke
Glover Jr. departed this life in the comfort of his home.
"Dr.
Howard," as he was affectionately known, had celebrated his
101st birthday last Dec. 17. He was born in Coweta County Dec. 17,
1908, and was one of nine children of the marriage of Howard Clarke
and Fannie Virginia Jones Glover.
Besides his
parents, Dr. Glover was preceded in death by his siblings Virginia
Glover Graham, Caroline Frances Glover, Thomas Jones Glover, J.
Littleton Glover, Mary Jones Glover Nixon, and the brother with whom
he operated The Glover Clinic, Dr. Nathaniel Banks Glover.
Educated as an
undergraduate at Mercer University and the University of Virginia,
Dr. Glover graduated from University of Virginia's School of Medicine
in 1934. He was a member of Kappa Alpha and the Phi Beta PI medical
society. He served internships and residencies at The Children's
Hospital of Philadelphia, Watts's Hospital in Durham, and at Egleston
Hospital in Atlanta (now Children's Healthcare of Atlanta).
He then
returned to his roots in Newnan to practice medicine for more than 55
years, and for more than 40 years he operated the Glover Clinic at 6
Brown Street in partnership with his brother Nat. He retired in 1993
at the age of 85.
Possessed of a
remarkable spirit of service, Dr. Howard was the saving grace for
many an anxious parent. His calm, reassuring manner put fears aside
if the child presented a runny nose or any other more serious
problem. His patients knew that at the end of the visit there would
be that comforting hug from Dr. Howard to go along with the bird he
inevitably drew on each child's hand. Mom and dad would be sent on
their way, knowing that this good man would welcome their calls of
concern should it be day or night.
A great
testimony to his endearing nature would be the hundreds of pictures
of his patients that were framed on all the walls in his office. Many
of his patients would continue to be cared for by him through high
school and college if the need arose. His "kids" just did
not want to give him up.
Dr. Glover led
a well-balanced life and loved to spend his leisure time enjoying
hunting, fishing, or on the golf course. He was adept as a card
player in bridge or poker.
During his
professional career he was a member of the Rotary Club and served on
the board of, at that time, The Citizens and Southern Bank. As a
loyal member of Central Baptist Church he had served as chairman of
the board of deacons and was Deacon Emeritus at the time of his death.
Dr. Glover is
survived by his wife, Margaret Trapnell Glover to whom he was married
Jan. 1, 1938, in Newnan. His children are Harriett Trapnell Glover
McCune of Alexandria, Va., Howard Clarke Glover III and his wife
Becky of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., John Trapnell Glover and his wife
Sandra of Atlanta and William Norwood Glover of Atlanta. Also
surviving are his grandchildren John Chambers McCune III of Mobile,
Ala., John Trapnell Glover Jr. and his wife Merrilee of Bozeman,
Mont., Howard Clarke Glover IV and his wife Sarah of Boston, Mass.,
Richard Trapnell Glover and his wife Emily of Chattanooga, Tenn., and
Jeffrey Barron Glover and his wife Carrie of Atlanta. There are six
great grandchildren. They are Elizabeth S. McCune and Catherine A.
McCune of Victoria, BC, Amelia C. Glover of Bozeman, Mont., Sophia D.
Glover of Boston, Mass., James Alexander Glover of Atlanta and
Richard Gates Glover of Chattanooga. His surviving siblings are
Winifred Glover Boone Klein of Atlanta and Clifford Clarke Glover of
West Point, Ga.
Funeral
arrangements are by McKoon Funeral Home at 38 Jackson Street.

6 and 8 p.m. The funeral service was Monday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. at
Central Baptist Church with Dr. Joel E. Richardson officiating.

Uncle Howard

September 10, 2010, just 3 months shy of his 102nd birthday. Uncle
Howard was one of the remaining nine children of Howard and Fannie
Glover. The family will receive visitors on Sunday September 12th at

an in-depth newspaper article by Winston Skinner. One of his many
nieces, Susan Glover Logan, penned the following memory.
A tribute
to Uncle Howard
by Susan
Glover Logan Saturday September 11th,2010
I don't
actually remember the first time I saw him-but he was there at my
delivery into this world-Mother used to tell me that he brought me to
her and teased her that she had a big bouncing boy-then laughing,
admitted that the baby was a girl child. That was a joke between them
that was often repeated and enjoyed every time told.
What I do
remember is if I was sick- Uncle Howard would not be long in coming-
He would arrive with his black bag and pull out magical potions that
would make me well again. We were so fortunate-spoiled I guess- we
didn't know what an appointment was- we just called Uncle Howard and
he's say come in the back door of the office. I can close my eyes and
see those back steps and then the long hall with all the photos of
the children he and Uncle Nat had taken care of - in one of the exam
rooms I remember there was a map of a magical kingdom. It was helpful
to look at that rather than the glass cases of instruments and the
silver container that I knew contained the sterile needles. Miss
Emily could give a good shot-it was scary but as I remember it didn't
actually hurt all that much. And Uncle Howard would draw a bird on my
thumb and give me a sucker -off we'd go-all happy again.
The last time
I saw him was in the summer of 2009-he was 101. I went by the house
and was greeted by the housekeeper/nurse who assured me that Uncle
Howard and Aunt Margaret would be happy to see me though my visit was
totally unannounced. We went through the house to the breakfast room
next to the kitchen and they were both sitting in chairs-facing each
other. Aunt Margaret was, as always, dressed to perfection-hair done,
makeup on -pearls in place-hands in her lap -her feet crossed at the
ankles while Uncle Howard, clean shaven as usual, was dressed in
casual slacks with a long sleeved blue Oxford shirt. And they were
both sound asleep. When the nurse announced that I was there, they
both raised their heads, opened their eyes and immediately greeted me
with smiles, asking me all about my family. How is your husband,
Bill, and your son, Kevin, they asked. They were on the dollar,
bright as could be.
We talked
about family mostly-very little about the usual ailments people
relate-they were interested in telling me about the latest great
grandchild and showing me pictures of all. Just before I left I
remarked that the flowers and the yard were so pretty and they both
rose spontaneously to go to the window. Then they animatedly told me
about the little rabbit. Seems that in the morning there is a rabbit
that comes out of the woods and they traced his path for me-first he
goes to this bush and then he hops over to that flower and see he has
nibbled on this one and then he hops over there. I had to chuckle to
myself-at all of us- standing at the window together peering at the
invisible path of a little rabbit who was not there. But when you are
98 and 101 as they were then-isn't it time to smell the roses and
imagine the little rabbit making his morning run even when he is gone?
Uncle Howard,
my sweet Uncle died yesterday. We will miss him- his life was a gift
and we enjoyed having him with us for a long, long time. We were so lucky!
